Description

Cradlepoint CBA850LP6 -NA CAT6 Router (Multi-Carrier Firmware)

The Cradlepoint CBA850LP6 models include an integrated LTE Advanced Category 6 4G LTE modem. The LP6 modems support SIM-Based Auto-Carrier selection so there is only one model for all of North America.  Simply insert an SIM Card and wait for the router to automatically detect the cellular carrier and establish a connection.
Please refer to this TUTORIAL for an introduction to the CBA850 router–remote | external antenna and enclosure installations, powering options and routing functions.
WARNING:  When connecting external antennas to the CBA850’s modem, DO NOT over-tighten the coax cable’s SMA connectors.  Over-tightening can and will detach the connector from where it is soldered to the modem’s PCB–which is not covered under our warranty.

NOTE:  Cradlepoint is moving towards cloud-based subscription services which is being implemented in their newest NCOS software versions.  Our CBA850 routers are refurbished to include the March 25, 2019 software version 7.0.50.  It is strongly recommended to use the 7.0.50 software (avoid upgrading) to retain full router control and functionality–without the need of subscribing to paid services.  According to Cradlepoint’s release notes:

“NCOS releases 7.0.71 and newer will no longer be available for manual or offline download. Upgrades must be performed via NetCloud Manager with an active subscription.”

While an activated SIM Card from most major US carriers and devices will work with this router, Sprint is the exception.   The router must be provisioned thru Sprint using the correct SIM Card for this device. This SIM card is also an add-on option with the CBA850LP6 router. Note the location next to the pictures of the router, at the top of this listing, that asks to click to add on the SIM card.

From time to time we also offer NEW CBA850LP6 routers as well as Refurbished CBA850LPE routers.

CBA850LP6 OVERVIEW:

Defining the industry standard for reliability in cellular routing, the cloud-managed ARC CBA850 empowers administrators to maximize infrastructure investments with a high-speed, automatic secondary path to access and control the network at remote locations when connectivity is lost or even if the primary router goes down.

The Cradlepoint ARC CBA850 is a turnkey networking solution for best-in-class 3G/4G/LTE fail-over that integrates seamlessly with existing network infrastructure. Using Enterprise Cloud Manager PRIME, the ARC CBA850 provides the ability to extend management capability to any primary router Out-of-Band without a static IP.  Equipped with Power-over-Ethernet for flexible, unobtrusive placement anywhere to optimize cellular reception, this powerful solution reduces truck rolls, consolidates infrastructure, and maximizes up-time for businesses that require always-on connectivity.

Quick Facts About This Product:

  • This router is best for: This router may be located is the indoor or attic area where reception is optimal.  It can then connected to a switch, Access Point, or another WiFi router via a Cat5e/6/7 Ethernet cable.  It is also the perfect candidate to install  inside one of our external WiFiX antennas and/or an enclosure.  The CBA850 accommodates applications which need IP Pass-Through modem capabilities to connect (via Ethernet) to a new or preexisting network (i.e., router) as a simple drop-in solution.  This router does NOT have WiFi and functions best used as a modem to provide LTE high speed internet thru the WAN port on a WiFi router of choice.

20 reviews for Cradlepoint CBA850LP6-NA CAT6 (AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, Sprint) REFURBISHED

  1. mickmorley (verified owner)

Adding an updated review, I’ve owned my unit for over 2 years and it has worked great. I use it through POE and I set it up seemlessly. Since then I have purchased 3 more for my family members and I am getting ready to purchase 1 more.

LTEFix is amazing and I will continue to do business with them.

  2. LisaThornhill

I heard a lot of good things about this router and decided to try one for my home internet. I had a similar experience to Joan by buying a “seller refurbished” one off eBay. Ended up having to get paypal involved to get my money back and was a little hesitant to purchase anything else refurbished. After reading these reviews I decided to give it a try. I can say that lte fix does a wonderful job on refurbishing. The cradlepoint looked new and came with a new power supply and newly dated certification report. The cradlepoint is very simple to get connected to the internet. Inserted my at&t sim and plugged the power and away it went. Been happy with it so far and would like to add some outdoor antennas. One important point is that it takes one of the big sim cards so if you use a sim card out of a cell phone you will need a sim card adapter.

  3. Keith A Lauer

The Modem looked like new and is performing like new for the last 2 months. The fasted DSL internet i could get was 1.5MB down. Using this modem and a AT&T sim card i am getting at least 10MB and I’ve seen as high as 40MB. Planning on upgrading to exterior mounted directional antennaes to try and get more. Thank you LTEFIX.

  4. A Manuel

I originally set out to purchase a MOFI router as it seemed to be the only option for LTE bands 25, 26 and 41. But enough negative feedback gave me pause. By chance I stumbled upon this beauty that not only cost less – it was a CRADLEPOINT!

LTEFIX shipped this out quickly, nicely packaged and cosmetically looked to be brand new.

I followed the setup (most of it anyway) posted on the LTEFIX website, and within minutes had internet service better than the hardwire Xfinity service I hoped to replace.

So thank you LTEFIX! Today, I am officially liberated from the $155/monthly Xfinity extortion.

Now this Cradlepoint device has capabilities that I haven’t tapped or tweaked.

But the settings as-is are more than enough to deliver what I need. So to those plug/play types such as myself: don’t be put-off by the broadband geekspeak. This thing works right out of the box.

Kudos to LTEFix, Jim Helm and the forum community folks who patiently and kindly offer advice and assistance to those of us who are clueless.

LTE Fix, you guys are the BOMB! I would like to share my experience with the refurbished Cradlepoint CBA850LP6 routers.

I purchased two of the refurbished routers from LTE Fix to use as an internet source in a couple of cabins we rent out in Colorado. Shipping was fast (received both two days later), well packaged, new 2.5 Amp power adapters, two antennas, and each containing an analysis sheet showing their date of refurbishment and internet test results. Installed a SIM Card with AT&T service, connected the Cradlepoint to a Linksys WRT1900ACS (that BJ at LTE Fix recommended for WiFi), powered up both routers and had high speed internet a few moments later. It was that simple.

We needed 3 more of these routers for additional cabins and, being the thrifty shopper that I am, located a “seller refurbished” CBA850LP6 on eBay for $20 less so I ordered three. When I received the package (a week later), it was apparent that not all “refurbished” routers are created equal. The routers arrived loose in a box, had some type of sticky glue (or adhesive) covering its top and sides, and its power supply was a miniature 1 Amp adapter whose wires were in complete knots and tangles. I installed the first router using the same process as the ones from LTE Fix. It would not connect to the internet and would not let me log into the router to see why. Tried another one of the routers with the same result. I contacted the eBay seller who suggested I reset the router by pressing and holding the small reset button. I could then log into the router, but it would still not provide internet. After a few more wasted messages to the seller, I decided to contact LTE Fix for suggestions.

I followed some email troubleshooting instructions from LTE Fix only to find the modems in were programmed with a “custom” APN as well as running outdated software. I was also advised that 1 amp is insufficient to operate the router. When the eBay seller stopped responding to my messages, being totally frustrated at this point, I contacted BJ at LTE Fix for a solution. BJ suggested I mail them the modems to “wipe” and reinstall with the newest modem software. A week later I received the modems from LTE Fix, popped it into the router with the SIM card, and it connected to internet almost immediately. I also ordered their 2.5 amp power adapter to replace the others.

I now have all five CBA850LP6 routers up and running correctly. I regret ordering from eBay which discount ended up costing significantly more than the first two I ordered from LTE Fix. I hope my “lesson learned” will help others from making the same mistake. Thank you again, LTE Fix.

Nice product, I do recommend getting external antennas. The staff here are very helpful in making sure you get everything right.

  7. Donnyb

Very easy to configure, great speeds on Verizon and att networks , I have had it up and running for 7 months with no issues ,

  8. Tummak

Purchase this to replace a ZTE for my Sprint service through Calyx. Performed the swap through as listed in the description without any issues. Device worked great first try and noticed a drastic improvement in my service. Love the IP pass through mode so I can use a high end router without double NAT issues.

  9. Lydia Wang

Spent a lot of time trying to decide what router would work best for someone who is not real technically experienced. I decided on this router after reading the introduction on the forum which I highly recommend. https://ltehacks.com/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=201

This router is a breeze to setup and get connected to the internet. Just follow the instructions on the forum. I plugged it into my home router for wifi and my internet service is pretty amazing. Grateful!!

  10. mickmorley (verified owner)

LTEFix is great, they sent proof that it was checked and activated previously. Shipping was extremely fast.

When it came in, I only had 2 problems. 1st, I couldn’t find the sim card tray. I didn’t realize the modem was USB that slid inside the unit. The 2nd was, after the sprint provision, the CBA850LP6-NA took a few reboots, 1 modem/sim reset, and about 15 minutes before it activated on the sprint network. So far I’ve been using it for a few days without issue. This replaced my ZTE MF920 which had a swelled battery (fire hazard). Wish I did it sooner.

I made minimal changes and the signal is a bit better than the ZTE. I have 1 external directional antenna connected to the main antenna.

  11. Sam Patel

I run a small business with two locations on the outskirts of town. Our DSL internet at both stores is down more often than up. I purchased two CBA850LP6 routers (one new and one refurbished) to use as an internet backup. The router is easy to set up and works super well with an AT&T cell phone card. I will now consider cutting the cord with DSL altogether. My only regret is purchasing the new unit instead of two refurbished units.

  12. starlight87

can’t beat the simplicity and quality of the cba850. like it so well i’m about to buy a second one. really lot of ways to mount and use this router. ltehacks is good source for instructions and ideas.

  13. mmasner

This router is giving me a 20dbi reception gain over my mofi with the stock antennas. I’m not sure how that’s possible, but the speed tests are coming in so much faster, doubt I’ll even need an external antenna. Very happy with this router, seems powerful and robust. LTEfix is also such a great resource with all of their tutorials, kudos to you guys for making the effort, will shop here exclusively from now on.

  14. brettawhite

I was hesitant to purchase a refurbished unit instead of a brand new one. Glad I did. Cannot tell any difference and setup and operation was super easy and flawless. Excellent communication from the folks at ltefix. They have certainly earned future business from me!

  15. lukesmall1

This is an excellent product and a great price for refurbished model. Works great with both my Verizon and ATT SIM cards, and is essentially plug and play! Shipping was quick and easy.

  16. jamie90

Sure beats the heck out of my nighthawk. Installed this router in the WiFIX 8dbi antenna. Easy to setup and very user friendly. Could not be happier.

  17. kdog2

I agree with everything Billy Jones says. Got it for my verizon unlimited hotspot plan. Works like a champ. 270GB and counting. Was surprised by its reception using the stock antennas. Good price. I would buy it again.

  18. fonsi411

Good refurbishing good. Strong router and simple to configure. See the posting on LTE Hacks forum for installation ideas. Mounted mine in a wifix enclosure and used two of the 15dbi panel antennas. Accepts the SIM card for prepaid iPad plan. Good speeds and solid connections and affordable prices. Don’t get much better than this.

Hmm, where to start? Amazon Prime could take lessons from these guys on packaging and shipping. Fast shipping means fast. I’m new to the concept of cellular routers (actually I know nothing about networking or routers) and was directed here from a RV group. I did a little research on Cradlepoint and was impressed by their global presence but still had little idea what I needed. Sent a product inquiry email to LTE Fix which BJ answered almost immediately. Patient person and extremely helpful. He suggested I consider the CBA850LP6 to plug directly into my home router and existing network. Sounded like something easily doable. I couldn’t decide between buying new or refurbished so both were added to my cart. The refurbished won on checkout and I clearly made the right decision. The CBA850LP6 looked new and was professional packaged with a certified and tested decal containing the refurbished date, tech’s name, router’s serial number and IMEI along with a printout of the test results. The power adapter and cellular antennas were most likely new. The modem supports dual SIM cards. I inserted my AT&T card into SIM slot 1 on the modem which I then slid into the router. Simple design and convenient for changing SIM cards. I connected the router to my PC and plugged in its power cord. I logged into the router using the default password (located on the bottom decal) and updated it and the time zone. I started skimming over the user manual for internet connection instructions when I noticed it had already connected. Can’t be this simple? Sure enough, it was! The CBA850LP6 has been up and connected for over a week now and will great speeds that do seem to vary with the time of day. I have not made any changes to the software settings which I have planned for this weekend’s project as well as learning more about POE and networking in general. I highly recommend the CBA850LP6. Connecting it to the internet requires minimal effort and knowledge.

this still receives new updates, new modems continue to come out for it. This router does everything i need it too (Upnp, DDNS, firewall, mac filter) and i can power with PoE so i don’t need a UPS, this makes my cellular internet feel like a residential line. great!

I now have all five CBA850LP6 routers up and running correctly. I regret ordering from eBay which discount ended up costing significantly more than the first two I ordered from LTE Fix. I hope my “lesson learned” will help others from making the same mistake. Thank you again, LTE Fix.

  • I originally set out to purchase a MOFI router as it seemed to be the only option for LTE bands 25, 26 and 41.

  • The Modem looked like new and is performing like new for the last 2 months. The fasted DSL internet i could get was 1.5MB down. Using this modem and a AT&T sim card i am getting at least 10MB and I’ve seen as high as 40MB. Planning on upgrading to exterior mounted directional antennaes to try and get more. Thank you LTEFIX.

  • I heard a lot of good things about this router and decided to try one for my home internet.

  • Adding an updated review, I’ve owned my unit for over 2 years and it has worked great. I use it through POE and I set it up seemlessly. Since then I have purchased 3 more for my family members and I am getting ready to purchase 1 more.

LTEFix is amazing and I will continue to do business with them.
